The U.S and U.K have more nukes (I had a link with the approximation of how many nukes each country have, but it was a long time ago and I lost the link :( ).

Point here is we cannot tell other nations to stop building their nuclear arsenal. We cannot remove their arsenal too without solid evidence and reasoning. This sort of behaviour from us is making us look stupid and we are hypocrites. Who knows? Bush or Blair could one day go loony and use nuclear weapons for no reason.

Military action in Iran is not a smart move. We will only be opening ourselves up for defeat. In my eyes world war 3 has already begun.

We have seen the results of what happens when people don't want to talk things over before using force. Military action at this stage is not a smart move. We would just be isolating ourselves from that part of the world leading to more hatred and we do still need solid proof of just what Iran is doing.

My thoughts.
"Practical men who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual influence, are usually the slaves of some defunct economist. Madmen in authority, who hear voices in the air, are distilling their frenzy from some academic scribbler of a few years back" - John Maynard Keynes

Per- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:US_a ... kpiles.svg

Source data from: Robert S. Norris and Hans M. Kristensen, "Global nuclear stockpiles, 1945-2006," Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists 62, no. 4 (July/August 2006), 64-66. Online at http://www.thebulletin.org/article_nn.p ... ja06norris

The US Nuclear Weapons Systems have safe guards so no single individual can fire them. It takes a Presidential Authentication Code to activate system, then 2 keys set to arm, then another Presidential Authentication Code launch and 2 keys set to launch. There is allot of checks and cross checks that go on the make sure the codes are correct. Then the President gives the final command to launch. Then 2 buttons must be pushed simultaneously. Birds away....

Even then if for some reason the launch was a mistake. The missiles can be ordered to self destruct. This I known from personal military knowledge. I had a very high clearance. This info is general knowledge and doesn't infringe on any "Top Secret" criteria.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a fatwa forbidding the production, stockpiling and use of nuclear weapons on August 9, 2005. The full text of the fatwa was released in an official statement at the meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.
Wonder why they felt the need to state that in an IAEA meeting ... ;) I'm afraid that I don't trust the words any senior politician, and I most certainly do not trust the senior leaders of Iran. The Iranians have enough sense to realise that such statement is just what the international community wanted to hear; they are in no way bound to stand by it. Besides, that was 2005, and we are in 2007.

Therefore, I stand by what I said:

"So you can drawn one conclusion - yes they either have, nearly have or are trying to have, nuclear weapons. If they can proof completely that they are nt, maybe I'd think again."

I take back two words -proof to be replaced with prove and nt to be replaced with not. I was in a rush!! ;)

Someone said somewhere on here that Iran has no need of nuclear power for generating energy, since they have more than enough oil (very well said, whoever it was!). But what country in the world will refuse nuclear secrets, will refuse weaponry that its enemies possess? They're not that foolish! ;)
Above all, I would teach him to tell the truth ... Truth-telling, I have found, is the key to responsible citizenship. The thousands of criminals I have seen in 40 years of law enforcement have had one thing in common: Every single one was a liar. [JE Hoover]

The thing that concerns me is if Iran gets nukes, this will make Israel very nervous. Israel has spy satellites and with Iran so close. If Iran even looked like it was about to launch. Israel will more than likely launch a preemptive strike. They do tend to have a fast trigger finger and would try to prevent the Iranians from hitting first. This is assuming that Israel hasn't already attacked the launch sites before the missiles can even be loaded.

This like shows the Nuclear Arsenals of every nation.
Iran bought nuclear weapons secrets from some pakistani guy? That's news to me.
No they were GIVEN to Iran
some links to jog your memory

NY Times

Wiki

BBC
None of those links mention Iran getting any Nuclear weapons, nor nuclear weapons technology, apart from the centrifuges which are surprise, surprise, dual use! You can enrich Uranium for either nuclear fuel, or for weapons.

Still, so far there is only suspicion against Iran. Not actual evidence.

Well, it seems Bush has his mind made up to attack Iran in any case and in my opinion that may actually cause something to happen that nobody has managed to do in centuries which is unite the Shia and Sunni against a common enemy.

Attacking Iran will spark off a terrible war the likes of which the world has never seen before.

Oh cmon! again Iran is floating on a sea of oil why do they need nuclear power?
if they really do have a lack of power would'nt it be more cost effective to spend millions on new oil refineries to utilize the sea of oil than to spend billions on developing nuclear technology?.....unless of course the real reason was to obtain nuclear weapons.
If your not going to fight a war to win......then dont bother starting it.

Oil is pretty dirty for power generation. Perhaps they wanted a cleaner alternative. And those deserts? Nice and out of the way for storing Nuclear Waste? :p
Honestly, all this speculation over Iran's nuclear program is going to get us nowhere. I'd tell Bush to put up or shut up. Show us the proof, or even better get him in front of an international court to make his accusations and provide the proof under oath.
Then again, he has lied like pinnochio on viagra before so we know we can't trust his word against that of the weapons inspectors.

:icon_twisted: I really need some duct tape to keep my head from exploding

[sarcasim] Don’t forget, the Holocaust never happened. It was filmed in the same TV studio where the moon landing and the 9/11 planes were taped.

And also, they will NOT make nuclear weapons with their plutonium, they’re just threatening to use it for weapons if they don’t get permission to use it for energy. Sounds oh so logical and reasonable that I don’t think we should be so suspicious about the issue [/sarcasim]
