Taleban free two S Korea hostages

Post by appleton »

The Taleban have freed two members of a group of South Korean hostages abducted in Afghanistan.

The pair, both women, were brought to a meeting point pre-arranged with the Taleban and handed over to the Afghan Red Crescent.

They were said to have been released partly because they were in poor health and partly as a goodwill gesture after talks with South Korean officials.

Two of the 23 South Koreans captured three weeks ago have been killed.

Looks like the Taleban are playing games they look like they are trying to make fun of the S.Korean government or the captives.
The Taleban said the two women were released because they were sick and as a goodwill gesture.
Goodwill gesture? What have the aid workers done to deserve being captured? What did the two do to deserve being killed?

I have always thought taking captives like this in war are very cowardly acts.

:( Glad that two of them have made it back to freedom, but what about the other 21? Who knows where the remaining 19 are or if they're even still alive. It angers me that people who come from a free country with a friendly intent should be so shamefully treated.

Yeah I heard this story too. It's shocking that people who have good intents find themselves in this situation.

I say get everyone out of there; the military, aid workers, politicians... everyone. And then just leave them all to it. It's getting a bit much to be honest. I know it sounds harsh, as there are certainly people that need outside help, but when the west sends over aid workers, and charity members put their lives at risk to help people in these situations, and all they get in return is violence, then in my eyes it's time to call it a day.

When anyone takes as hostages aid workers they really have stooped to the lowest. Aid workers are often anti-war, even pacifits, many of them are unpaid and devote themselves to the work purely out of compassion for their fellow human beings. It really is a disgrace to take at gunpoint those people who are only there with first aid kits and medicines to help their captors. To me it also shows a desperation on the part of the taleban and an admittance that they can't engage the military forces successfully.
