The Russian Orthodox Church has enthroned its new leader at a ceremony in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow.
Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad became the 16th leader of the Church, succeeding Patriarch Alexiy II, who died in December. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin were among the thousands of people who attended the ceremony.
Never heard of any recent event in which a head of nation (Not one but two here, both President and PM) attended the ordination of a Christian Cleric. Well.. all this happens while riots are breakout in Russia due to unemployment and economic slowdown.
